Obama vs. McCain: the presidential race
Hi. Now as we all know, the presidential general elections are coming up in less than a month. Since the market tanked, both campaigns have been using dirtier and dirtier tactics in their campaign and in their speeches.
Governor Palin, at a rally on October 6th, the eve of the second presidential debate, accused Senator Obama of "palling around with terrorrsits who targeted their own country." She was referring to Senator Obama's ties to radical Vietnam protestor William Ayers, who bombed several government buildings forty years ago. The only connection between Senator Obama and Mr. Ayers is that they once served on a committee together. When Mr. Ayers was a "terrorist", Senator Obama was the ripe old age of eight.
Likewise, Obama television ads have been getting progressivly nasty towards Senator McCain, calling him, "senile, and unfit to run this country." Now this may be out of line, but it really makes people think about a senile, seventy-two year old president.
I am not going to target either of the candidates for president, I am going to target the vice presidents, the platforms, and the core beliefs of both parties.
I will start off with the Democrats and Senator Joe Biden. When Senator Obama announced his candidacy, Republicans jumped all over him, saying that he had virtually no experiance, and no qualifications to run this great nation. Then he announced that Senator Biden would complete his ticket. That shut up those Republicans. Senator Biden has twenty-seven years of foreign policy experiance, and other experiance on the Senate. He has a record of "reaching across the aisle" to quote Senator McCain's favorite phrase. Senator Biden really balances off the Obama ticket well.
Now we move to the Democrats' policies. As we all know, the Democrats are against gun rights, meaning that every "Joe six-pack and hockey mom" can't carry a .38. Now this is reasonable, becuase if you allow people to have guns at home, kids are at danger of accidentally shooting themselves, other people, the firearm could discharge, or it could be used to murder someone, should the owner want to, for whatever reason, revoke the life of an innocent human being. It is all very fine for police and the military to carry weapons, but they actually have a reason for having them.
The Democrats also believe in abolishing, or at least seriously revising, the No Child Left Behind act that was published by President George Bush. This act requires teachers to drill information into students' heads, then give standardized tests on the information that they have drilled into aforemenioned heads. The whole thing is really pointless, and is a waste of taxpayers dollars.
But enough about the Democrats. Let's move on to Governor Sarah Palin of Wasilla, Alaska. Governor Palin has been Governor of Alaska for approximatly two years, give or take. She did approve the "Bridge to Nowhere" that she denied she had voted for. Orriginally she voted for it, then kept the money already raised. She tried to sell the Alaska state jet on Ebay, told Alaskans that it had sold despite the fact that it hadn't, and then sold it to a private buyer. She has absolutly no foreign policy experiance except that "I can see Russia from my house."
Normally this would not be a deciding factor in an election, who the runner up is. But in this case, with Palin a literal heartbeat from the presidency, we have to ask ourselves if this is who we really want as our next president.
Despite Palin, the Republicans believe that every person should be allowed to have a gun. This is not only morally wrong, but irresponsible. How many kids have to accidentally shoot themselves, family, or friends before the NRA admits that it is just stupid. This is not all that the Republican party believes, but I am not going to get into all of its faults.
Thanks for your time.

Great first topic, but if your going to do big issues like this it's more intersesting if you make your opinion known. We all know the facts and even if we didn't, would we take a blogger over the news. (Though I have minimal trust where the media is concerned.) It's a great start. Keep up the good work!

I thought there was some opinion in there as well as facts, but it could probably be fleshed out a little more. About the No Child Left Behind changes, why don't you do a post suggesting what would be a better alternative to what you have described in this post? You didn't go into much detail and I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on what could improve the educational system in this country. Good first post!
-you get three paws of approval (and one thumbs up!)
